This Privacy Policy explains how puzil.io ("puzil", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile app. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described below.

The app is operated by Puzil Games ("the Operator"), based in Republic of Ireland.

1. What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the app and the leaderboards. Specifically:

What we do not collect

• We do not include any third-party advertising SDKs.
• We do not include third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• We do not collect payment information (in-app purchases are not enabled in this version of the app).
• We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or precise location when the app is in the background.

2. How we use your data

We use your data only to:

1. Provide the core puzzle, league, and battle features of the app;
2. Send you the notifications you have explicitly opted into;
3. Award and display points and rankings;
4. Detect and prevent obvious abuse (e.g. cheating or harassment);
5. Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone, and we do not use your data for behavioral advertising.

3. Where your data is stored, and who else sees it

Your data is processed by the following service providers on our behalf:

• Supabase — our backend, database, and authentication provider. Hosts your account record, gameplay history, and (if enabled) push token and location. Supabase processes data on servers in the United States and/or Europe.
• Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — used to deliver push notifications if you enable them.
• Expo — used to build and update the app, and to relay push notifications via Expo's push service.

These providers act as data processors. We have no other recipients of your data unless required by law.

International transfers

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States by our service providers. Where transfers occur, they rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.

4. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access — request a copy of what we hold about you;
• Correction — ask us to fix anything inaccurate;
• Deletion — ask us to delete your account and associated data;
• Restriction / Objection — ask us to stop or limit certain processing;
• Portability — receive a machine-readable copy of your data;
• Withdraw consent — for anything you opted into (notifications, location);
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@puzil.io. We will respond within 30 days.

You can also delete your account directly in the app: Profile → Sign out (full account deletion: contact us at the email above).

5. How long we keep your data

• Active accounts: for as long as you keep your account.
• Deleted accounts: we permanently delete personal data within 30 days of your deletion request, except where retention is required by law (e.g. tax records, fraud-prevention logs) for the period the law requires.
• Anonymous gameplay statistics (with no link to you) may be kept indefinitely.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) between the app and our servers, encrypted storage at our backend provider, and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions appropriate to the data we hold.

7. Children

The app is intended for users aged 13 and over (or 16 and over if you are in the European Economic Area, where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below those ages. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this section reflects the most recent revision.

Terms of Service

Welcome to puzil.io. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the puzil mobile application (the "App"), operated by Puzil Games ("we", "us", "puzil").

By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

To use puzil you must be at least 13 years old, or 16 years old if you reside in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with a higher age of digital consent. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

2. Your account

• You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide when creating your account.
• You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for anything that happens under your account.
• You agree to notify us immediately at hello@puzil.io if you believe your account has been compromised.
• You may not create an account on behalf of another person or use someone else's account without permission.

3. Acceptable use

When using puzil, you agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that infringes the rights of others;
• Attempt to access, tamper with, or use non-public areas of the App, our systems, or our service providers' systems;
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract source code from the App, except where the law expressly allows it;
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to play puzzles, complete battles, or otherwise generate fake scores or leaderboard entries;
• Use a display name that is offensive, impersonates another person, or contains personal data of another person without their consent;
• Harass, abuse, or harm other users via display names, in-game actions, or referrals;
• Use the App to send unsolicited messages or to artificially inflate the leaderboard.

We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these rules.

4. Gameplay, scores, and the leaderboard

• The App provides daily puzzles and battle features. Scores, points, and league rankings are intended for entertainment and competitive bragging rights — they have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed, transferred, sold, or exchanged for anything.
• We reserve the right to correct, reset, or remove scores that we reasonably believe were obtained through cheating, exploits, or bugs.
• We may add, change, or remove puzzle types, game modes, or features from time to time.

5. Notifications

If you opt in to push notifications, you agree to receive in-app and push notifications relating to your account, gameplay, and battle invitations. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or in Profile → Push notifications.

6. Intellectual property

• The App, its design, its puzzles, the puzil brand, and all related content are owned by us and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.
• You retain ownership of the display name you choose and any content you submit. By submitting content (such as your display name) you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to display it within the App (for example, on leaderboards).

7. Third-party services

The App relies on third-party services including Apple, Supabase, and Expo. Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services beyond our own control.

8. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, the exclusions above apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill arising from or in connection with your use of the App.

Our total liability to you for any direct damages will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) ten euros (€10).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud.

10. Termination

• You may stop using the App at any time. You may request account deletion by emailing hello@puzil.io.
• We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the App.
• On termination, your right to use the App ends immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, governing law) will continue to apply.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in-app or by email. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Republic of Ireland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be brought exclusively in the courts of Republic of Ireland, unless your local consumer-protection laws give you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

If you are a consumer based in the European Economic Area, nothing in this section affects your rights under mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
